DREAM VILLAGES

Tancoyol: tranquility that is enjoyed

Tancoyol is located 58 km from Jalpan. The journey, which takes approximately 50 minutes, is marked by low jungle vegetation, once you take the detour to the state highway that takes you to Tancoyol you will be able to appreciate the diversity that only the Sierra Gorda offers. You go up a small slope and an oak forest appears in front of you only for a few minutes as it again shows the low jungle vegetation and then displays you something that you had not even imagined, hills that have cacti almost three meters high that do not go unnoticed by those who do this trip.

Without a doubt, the main attraction of the town is the Mission of Nuestra Señora de la Luz that is located in the center of town; In front of it, the main garden invites you to rest for a moment and admire the colorful and peaceful town.

If you have enough time, Tancoyol is just the beginning of the adventure, from here you can visit the old aqueduct, the place known as the crater or go to the Santa María river.

In addition, you can visit the Saddlery workshop that is only 10 minutes from the place or the Pueblo de las Nuevas Flores, a community of Pame origin that has among its main activities, the production of crafts made from Palm leaves.

Saucillo: of great cultural wealth.

In the heart of the Sierra Gorda, just ten kilometers from the town of Landa de Matamoros on the old road to Tancoyol, is the village of El Saucillo, grouped around its garden and its Church. In Saucillo we can find a temple as the main attraction. Due to its size and austerity, this temple contrasts with that of Landa and that of the other four Missions built by indigenous communities under the direction of Fray Junípero Serra and his companions.

Valle Verde: majestic landscapes

It is located to the north of the municipality, on the border with the state of San Luis, here a temperate climate predominates and the vegetation is wooded; the houses are mostly made of wood or concrete, but almost always imitating the shape of a cabin.

Even though it takes a long way to get here, it is an interesting trip since this part of the region is one of the best preserved and allows the observation of flora and fauna; also, the warmth of its people will make you feel at home.

If you like local crafts, before arriving in Valle Verde, you will find the Soledad de Guadalupe ceramic workshop, here you can paint or engrave the crafts of your liking and when you return from the town (one day at least) it will be baked and ready to be used.

La Cercada: place of Tének culture

From Valle Verde to La Cercada there are 7 kilometers of distance, on foot, which take two hours through the forest of pines, oaks and junipers. You have to climb a mountain, go down it and then go up. The semitropical heat soaks clothes with sweat that clings to the skin; despite the purity of the air, the weather can cause heavy breathing and the heart beats fast. Right on that stony, slippery and muddy path one regrets being an irredeemable sedentary person.

San Antonio Tancoyol

It is located very close to the Santa María River canyon, home to important species within the fauna of the biosphere reserve that have found abundant food in the river canyon to make this space their habitat, here the service of legal hunting of white-tailed deer and soon collared wild boar and wild turkey, is offered to the visitor.

In this region we can find big cats such as pumas and jaguars, it also has an important population of cycads, plants that have not evolved since the Jurassic period.
